Message The capacitors in this case perform the function of providing more potential energy to the pump motor and to help eliminate voltage spikes. Nissan added a capacitor in parallel with an existing capacitor in the power circuit for controlling the motor speed. This arrangement is what's called a capacitor bank. This allows you to have more capacitance and store more potential energy. Nissan increased both capacitor's capacitance to increase the power potential even more. They increased the voltage rating to put a better ceiling on the voltage spikes to help keep the capacitors from blowing.

Below is a picture of the single capacitor design. As you can see, the capacitor is blown. This is a picture of my own FPC which I removed from my 1993 TT and this is what started me wanting to learn more about the FPC.

Two things that can happen in the case of the older inefficient design. The cap will blow and the power MOSFET that drives the pump can blow.

Here is a short video of what a capacitor bank is. It's basically what's in the FPC. Again, the arrangement of the capacitors in the newer FPCs are in parallel.
